A hand surgeon is an orthopedic, plastic, or general surgeon who is trained to diagnose and treat problems of the many intricate structures in the hand, wrist, and forearm.
Hand surgeons have received specialized training in addition to their board certified specialty training in orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, or general surgery. To become a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, a hand surgeon must have completed a full year of such additional training and must pass a rigorous certifying examination. |
